The Langlade County Sheriff's Office has lost one officer in the line of duty. Sheriff Edward Buchen died Sunday, November 5th, 1933 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The link below is to the page for Sheriff Buchen on the Officer Down Memorial Page.

The Langlade County Sheriff's Office also holds the distinction for having the first Lady Sheriff in Wisconsin, Emma Marion Leonard. Emma's huband Dan was elected sheriff in1922, upon his death in 1924 Governor John Blaine appointed Emma to finish the term.
Emma Leonard (nee Kupps) was born in Antigo, WI in 1879 and was one of the 1st children born in Antigo. She was a life long resident and died in 1953.
