Educational Opportunities
Our Programs
Looking for a lesson or speaker for your classroom or youth group?
The Langlade County Conservation Specialist is excited for youth education on conservation topics!
Specific programs are listed below. If you have another topic you'd like a program for, please reach out to Audrey Gossett. Contact info at the bottom.
Discovering Birds
(K-3) In this program, we’ll talk about what makes a bird a bird, look at characteristics and adaptations and then do a scavenger hunt outdoors if possible or craft with natural elements.
(2-6) This program will dive more into adaptations of birds and include an activity on beak adaptations and why birds evolved to have different shaped beaks.
Conservation Efforts for Birds
(7-12) This program will dive more into hazards that birds face daily and on migration. It will include a game based on hazards and talk about efforts we can do to help birds.
Oh Baby Bird
(K-8) This program will dive into spring subjects such as nesting and what bird parents need to do to raise their young. This is adaptable to your classroom needs. We will do an activity either outdoors if possible or in the classroom.
Habitat is Home
(K-8) Learn what a habitat is and different types of habitats. This program can either go into depth of finding habitats and what types of animals live there (i.e. microhabitats, habitats in a tree, or habitats around the schoolyard) or learn about habitat destruction and limiting factors. This will include games or activities outdoors if possible or adapted to indoors. This can vary based on school age and topics being studied.
Invasive Species
(Any) Langlade County will partner with FLOW AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) and/ or TIP (Timberland Invasive Species) to present about local invasive species that threaten our ecosystem and ways to prevent spread. These presentations will include games or activities to enhance learning. These can be tailored to any age.
